Júzcar: The Blue Village Nestled in the Andalusian Mountains

 

Júzcar is one of the most unusual villages in southern Spain, tucked away among the lush green mountains of the Málaga province. Why Did Júzcar Turn Blue?

 

Until 2011, Júzcar was an ordinary white Andalusian village. Everything changed when Sony Pictures chose it for the promotional campaign of "The Smurfs" movie. The houses were painted blue, and the streets were decorated with themed murals and figures.

 

After the campaign ended, the residents held a vote and decided to keep the village blue forever—the surge in tourism was too significant to ignore, growing from 800 visitors per year to 80,000. Since then, Júzcar has stood out as one of Andalusia’s most unique attractions.
